Nigeria’s government has made it known that it will be the first to forbid non-Nigerian models from appearing in its television advertising. The decision covers non-native white performers who frequently appear on national television. The choice is made as the administration chooses to concentrate on fostering homegrown talent in October of this year.

The Advertising Regulatory Council Of Nigeria (ARCON), in a statement shared on Twitter, stated that “all advertisements, advertising, and marketing communications materials targeted or exposed on the Nigerian advertising space are to feature only Nigerian models and voice-over artists. The general public, media outlets, advertisers, ad agencies, and other interested parties are now urged to take note.
Olalekan Foladapo, Director General of ARCON, stated that any current advertising campaigns would continue until the end of their respective mandates. The Advertising Regulatory Council “would not grant subsequent applications for revalidation for ongoing dissemination of such products,” Foladapo also stated.
